Hydrocarbon-Producing Fungi Species

Gliocladium roseum, a fungus is known as a biological agent that is antagonistic to fungal pathogens has yet another quite promising potential.Epiphytic fungi that live in the wood turned out to have the potential to produce the explosive hydrocarbons.
Prof. Gary Strobel, a Mycology expert from the University of Montana States claims to be the inventor of this fungal species, which then gave the scientific name of Gliocladiumroseum stated that the fungus was first found in the branches of a certain plant species found in tropical rainforests in Argentina (plant ulmo).

This species, so far the only organisms capable of producing hydrocarbons  that are composed of long chain of carbon with hydrogen molecules are able to produce energy when done the burning process. Hydrocarbons are compounds produced by fungi are collectively  can be used to move the Myco-Diesel engine. This is a new hope for the use of alternative fuels for motor vehicles and some industrial machinery.

The scientists have now analyzed several strains of this fungus species to find the Genes which are involved in hydrocarbon production process and whether these genes can be manipulated to increase the production of hydrocarbons in order to increase the production of bio fuels.
